How to Work with Coloring Books
Did you get a coloring book for your child only to find it in shreds a few moments later? Very young children might as well get old magazines to play with but around 5 years old you can certainly start working with coloring books. The thing to remember here is that a coloring book is an activity and when you start introducing your child to it you need to work with it together.
Don’t expect too much too soon!
It takes time for young children to get the concept of a coloring book and you shouldn’t expect perfect fill-ins from the start. Encourage the work and talk about the pictures and the colors. For a young child the pictures are just as pretty when the color is all over and not in any order so try to see it from the eyes of the child and don’t correct anything!
Stickers will be great for Toddlers
If you have children that are too young for the coloring book they can still enjoy it together with you and the older child. Give them stickers and tell them to put the stickers on the lines or in the spaces of the pictures. Kids from 3-5 years old love this activity and it will keep them busy for a long time! In a similar fashion you can let them put stamps on the pages of the coloring book.
Simple Graphics
Get the coloring books with very simple graphics but try to find the motives that you know that your children love. There are excellent coloring pages online that you can download and print. Just type in the name of the figure your child likes in Google and press search. Then you choose the tab for images and you will see plenty of coloring pages for the figure. Print a whole bunch and make your own coloring book. It will save you a lot of money and be a great surprise for your child.
These Books are good for the Development of the Child
Coloring books can be a wonderful introduction to real books. Your child learns to love the concept of a book and while getting into it the playful way a foundation for a love for books is laid. Remember this and be easy about mishaps so that your child will find this activity stimulating and develop well from it. To make the activity easier for you to handle you should only use colors that will wash off easy and let the work take place on a table that can’t be stained!
