Animal Print Beads and Jewelry Lockets by Fasih
Janie found herself alone after 25 years. Everyone was telling her to get a hobby, get out more, go out with some old friends, meet some new people, just go. After 25 years in the same old, same old, the thought of trying anything new was to overwhelming for Janie. How do you wake up the next morning and not have the same normal that you have had for years? She found it very hard. Janie had decided a after giving it careful thought that she would find a craft and let that be her therapy. She would be contributing something. Something had to be better than this not normal existence.
What hobby would it be? Bob had always liked animals of all kinds. His favorite place to visit was the local zoo. He had volunteered there weekly and became quite attached to the old zebra named Candy as well as the other animals. Candy would come right to him when he called her by name. Funny how things start to come together. Janie found herself visiting the zoo weekly just to feel a closeness to Bob. She also met a new friend, Cindy. Cindy had just started working at the zoo’s gift shop. Janie was telling Cindy about her desire to find a hobby. Cindy started going through some catalogs in the store and showing Janie the animal print beads. Janie thought about making bracelets or necklaces. She really wanted them to be special. Then she remembered an old necklace that her mother had always worn. It had large zebra print beads on it and a sterling silver jewelry locket. Her mother had always kept a picture of Janie’s Grandparents in the locket.
Janie knew what to do. Cindy gave Janie three of the catalogs that seemed to have the largest selection of beads. After careful selection Janie ordered beads with tiger print, leopard print and zebra print. She was very excited about the animal print beads and gathered the rest of the jewelry tools together to get started on her new hobby.
Still hunting for unusual jewelry lockets, Janie invited Cindy to visit some thrift stores in a town just 20 miles away. This town was known for its antiques and specialty stores. After rummaging through a couple stores they finally found a store that had a large selection of old costume jewelry. Wouldn’t you know that in the middle of a box of old chains were 5 old jewelry lockets. What a find. Janie’s first necklaces had not only the animal print beads on them but a unique piece of history as well. Cindy was able to sell the necklaces in the store. The hobby had turned not only into an adventure but allowed Janie to make new friends and create a living. Making necklaces out of tiger print, leopard print, zebra print beads, or any other animal print beads she could find opened up a new normal for Janie.
