Lizard Range has plenty to offer this season by PETER HECKEL
Lizard Range’s beautiful, majestic peaks seem to tower high over the seven thousand acres filled with private bowls, glade forest and valleys. A large amount of the Cedar valley is taken up by Island Lake’s large and diverse terrain. Island Lake also forms a part of the North end of the Lizard Range, all of Mount Baldy and the front and back sides of the beautiful slopes of Mount Fernie. At the heart of it sits Island Lake Lodge and beautiful Island Lake. Several of the runs can be skied right to the door of the lodge! The lodge has been recognized as one of the most unique and authentic lodges in all of Canada by National Geographic travelers’ magazine for the second time in the past three years.

To make this La Nina snow year special for everyone, a few special tours for the 2011 – 2012 ski season have been announced. Family Christmas tours will take place between the 24th and 28th of Decenber and will include an extra guide in the cat, a delicious turkey dinner and a festive, beautifully decorated lodge. Children under the age of 18 will receive 10% off the tour price.
Ladies Only catski tours will take place March 11th – 14th and March 27th – 29th. The tours will have all female guides and cat drivers. The guides will provide powder skiing tips and the ladies will also receive a complimentary treatment in Island Lake’s luxurious spa.
The snow year that the area has been having has been great. In the alpine there is an estimated amount of snow (about 5.5 meters or 18 feet of snow) which insures excellent, enjoyable skiing for all visitors. “With the extraordinary amount of snow we have, it only makes sense to keep on running into April” says Mike McPhee from one of the resorts in the area. Lizard Ridge will certainly be seeing a lot of visitors this year due to the many activities and resort offers in the area, not to mention the wonderful, quality snow that anyone can enjoy.
